There are only a handful of reptile and amphibian species to be found at Tireragan.
The adder is common throughout the estate, most prevalent on the heath and moorland. It is Britain's only venomous snake and although not normally aggressive, on sunny days they may well be seend basking on the pathways and care should be taken especially with dogs.
The other snake-like reptile often seen in Tireagan is the slow worm, which is in fact a legless lizard rather than a snake. Like many lizards it has the ability to regrow its tail which often falls off if grabbed by a predator.
Common lizards are very abundant throughout the estate but are generally seen only very briefly as they dash away from ones' approach.
Common frogs are found in huge numbers in the wettest areas and are the primary food resource for the adders. Common toads are much more likely to be seen on the drier slopes inside the woodlands.
